How we work

Whatever stage you are at, the work is done by one team in London — research, design, engineering, QA and delivery under one roof. We don’t subcontract, so the people who scope your project are the people who build it.

Get in touch

One team, from the first question to the store listing

Startups and established companies alike come to us with a problem rather than a specification. We research it, scope it, design it, build it and ship it — with our own engineers, on our own payroll, in our own studio. Nothing is handed to a third party once the contract is signed.

Three ways to start

The process below is the same whichever you pick. What changes is how much of the product you are handing over and for how long.

01

Discovery workshop

You have an idea rather than a plan, and committing to a full build would be guessing.

A short, structured engagement that settles the scope, the platform decision, the architecture and a realistic budget range in weeks. You finish it with a roadmap and an estimate you can act on — with us or with anyone else.

02

Full product build

You want the app delivered, not managed.

We cover the whole lifecycle: research and business analysis, technical documentation, wireframes and prototyping, design, development, QA and store release. One project manager owns the schedule and the budget, and reports against dated milestones.

03

Dedicated team

You have a product that keeps evolving and want a team that knows it deeply.

A standing Sena team works only on your roadmap, learns your domain, and stays with the product as it grows — without you carrying the cost of recruiting and retaining engineers yourself.

Sena Software vs. others in the industry

The software service market is a constant race. We’ve compared the options open to you so you can see where a specialist partner fits — and where it doesn’t.

Coding expertise paired with must-have soft skills

It takes a combination of teamwork and technical chops to deliver superior software. Our team comes to the table with both.

What that looks like in practice

Most development projects require a suite of skills, so we assemble a team of engineers handpicked for their expertise in mobile, backend, QA and testing, UI/UX design and DevOps — matched to what your product actually needs rather than who happens to be free.
We’re keenly aware of the importance of healthy teamwork — both within our own ranks and in partnership with you. Engineers who can explain a trade-off to a non-technical stakeholder are worth more than engineers who cannot.
We work in your tools and your process where you have one: your board, your repository, your CI, your review standards, your stand-up times. Where you do not, we bring ours and document it.
We’re always up for a challenge, whether that means working with a new technology or building a product that does not have an obvious precedent.

A process that delivers

Every stage below is run by our own engineers, designers and project managers in London. We don’t subcontract the work, and you deal with the people doing it.

01

Brief

Every project starts with a conversation about what you are trying to build and why — the users, the commercial goal, the constraints you already know about, and the deadline you are working to. Nothing is billed at this stage, and you leave it with an honest view of whether we are the right team for the job.

02

Research

We investigate before we quote. Market and competitor analysis, technical feasibility of what you have described, platform guidelines, and any regulatory requirements your sector brings with it. If something is harder than it sounds, you hear it now rather than in month three.

+
03

Options

You get several routes to the same goal rather than a single take-it-or-leave-it number — native or cross-platform, a lean first release or the full feature set, build now or phase it. Each option carries its own scope, cost range and timeline, so we can find out together what actually matters to you.

+
04

Roadmap

Once you have picked a direction we turn it into a roadmap: the feature set release by release, the technical architecture, the third-party integrations, and the milestones with dates against them.

+
05

Contract

Scope, functions, milestones, timelines and price are written down and agreed before anyone writes code. Changes after that are priced and agreed the same way, so the plan you signed off stays recognisable at the end.

+
06

Wireframes and design

User journeys, wireframes and a clickable prototype come before development. You walk through the app and change your mind while changes cost a conversation rather than a sprint. Visual design follows once the flows are signed off.

+
07

Kick-off

We assign your project manager and name the engineers on the build. Tooling, reporting rhythm, demo schedule and the first sprint goal are agreed in a single session, and development starts.

+
08

Build, test and release

Development runs in short sprints with a working build in your hands at the end of each one. QA runs alongside on real devices rather than emulators, and we handle TestFlight distribution, store listings, submission and the review process.

+
09

Support and next phase

Launch is the start of the work. We monitor crash rates, performance and store reviews, ship updates on a regular cadence, keep the app compatible with each new OS release, and plan the next phase of the roadmap with you.

+

The Sena Software experience

Your investors and stakeholders have expectations, so with every project we construct and follow a roadmap built for efficiency.

Metrics matter

All software development projects are ultimately about impact, long-term scalability and product integrity. Your return on investment frames our work, day in and day out.

Built to scale

As your business grows, you’ll likely need to expand your Sena team. When that time comes, we go back to work to find the right additions.

The long haul

Things often go well enough that you want more from us. We regularly extend engagements to keep pace with your success.
